Our Guelph Team
Jason Schmidt, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your thoughts, unsure how to find peace in the noise? I’ve been there too. When I was 20, I began facing my own mental health challenges, and the support I received during that time changed the trajectory of my life. One person, in particular, believed in me early on—and that belief helped me begin to heal. Now, I strive to offer the same support and hope to children and youth who are struggling.
In our sessions, your child will experience a safe, nonjudgmental space where they can express themselves openly and begin to develop the tools they need to manage life’s challenges. I use a gentle but direct approach that builds trust while guiding them toward emotional growth and resilience. Through evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and creative, age-appropriate strategies, I help young people understand their emotions, build confidence, and feel empowered in their healing.
As a therapist, I believe in walking alongside my clients—not in front, pointing the way, or behind, pushing them forward. I walk beside them, gently encouraging and guiding them when they lose their way. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional regulation, or life transitions, it’s an honour to walk that path with them.
Kim Cooke, Registered Psychotherapist (RP)
A significant aspect of my work involves addressing issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. These are deeply personal and often painful experiences that require a compassionate and empathetic approach.
My own journey with mental health has been a cornerstone of my practice. Having navigated similar struggles, I bring a unique perspective and a deep sense of empathy to my work. I understand the courage it takes to seek help and the profound impact that effective therapy can have on one’s life.
My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to lead more balanced and fulfilling lives. By combining my extensive therapeutic training with my personal insights into mental health and my unique approach to music therapy, I aim to provide a holistic and empathetic approach to therapy.
